Final Stats

(San Francisco) - Senior All-American Conor Chinn put on a show Sunday afternoon, scoring three goals in USF's 3-1 West Coast Conference victory against Loyola Marymount Sunday afternoon at Negoesco Stadium. The Dons (6-8-1, 3-5-0 WCC) put together one of their best offensive matches of the season against the Lions (7-8-1, 2-5-1 WCC).

San Francisco clicked from the start on offense and fired 10 shots and roared out to a 2-0 lead before LMU managed its inaugural shot in the contest in the 35th minute. USF out-shot the Lions 22-10, including a dominating 14-2 mark in the opening period. The Dons fired a whopping 17 shots on goal, compared to six for LMU.

Chinn keyed the Dons' offensive onslaught with a career-high 13 shots, 11 of them on frame. The defending WCC Player of the Year scored his first goal in the 22nd minute off a double assist from junior forward Bryan Burke and junior midfielder Justin Warren. Burke found Warren on the far post, who passed to Chinn in the middle of the box for the 1-0 lead.

USF went up 2-0 as Chinn intercepted an errant pass, split a pair of defenders and punished the opposing keeper to the near post in the 31st minute. Chinn recorded his first career hat trick at Loyola Marymount in a 5-4 loss November 16 of last year in Los Angeles and has a remarkable seven goals in his last three matches against the Lions.

Trailing 2-0 LMU seized the offensive initiative for a stretch midway through the second half and tacked on a goal in the 65th minute as Phil Da Silva found the back of the net for the third time in 2009 off a pair of short passes from Jonas Reiter and Artur Jozkowicz. San Francisco answered less than 10 minutes later as Chinn took another feed Burke and fired it over the goal line. It was the team-leading eighth scoring strike of the year for the San Diego native.

It was the second multi-assist match of the season for Burke and his team-leading sixth and seventh of the season. The 2009 Preseason All-WCC selection now has 10 career assists in the Green and Gold.

"I am very pleased with the win," USF head coach Erik Visser said. "This was a great team effort today. I was pleased with the quality of soccer we played especially in the first 45 minutes. This was an important win against a very good LMU team. I am proud of the way this team has dealt with a lot of adversity and struggles. They continue to battle and do not let up in their effort."

Freshman goalkeeper Brendan Roslund collected the win for the Dons and made five saves on the afternoon. It was an extremely hectic day for LMU keeper Patrick Sampson, who recorded a career-high 14 saves on 22 shots.

USF returns to action when it travels to ancient Bay Area and WCC rival Santa Clara Friday, November 6. Match time against the Broncos is set for 8:00 PM in a match televised live by the Fox Soccer Channel from Buck Shaw Stadium.
