USF Men's Soccer Shutout at Portland

Nov. 4, 2007

Final Stats

(Portland, OR) - USF men's soccer fought Portland to a scoreless draw in the first 52 minutes and then the floodgates opened Sunday afternoon in West Coast Conference action at Merlo Field. The Dons (6-9-1, 2-6-1 WCC) suffered their second straight shutout in the Pacific Northwest, dropping a 3-0 decision to the Pilots (7-4-5, 4-1-4 WCC), who complete the season series sweep.

San Francisco owned an 18-13 shots advantage, but simply could not find the back of the net as Portland freshman goalkeeper Austin Guerrero made seven saves to blank the Dons for the second time this season. Freshman forward Bryan Burke and sophomore midfielder Jesse Henderson fired a team-high four shots for USF.

Frankie Lopez opened up the scoring at 52:48 off the first of two feeds from Alex Elliott. Lopez scored again at 78:02 for his fourth scoring strike of the season. Less than four minutes later, Logan Emory recorded his third goal of the year at 81:39.

Junior goalkeeper Eric Conner collected five saves for the Dons.

USF returns home to close the 2007 regular season on a three-match home stand. The Dons welcome No. 3 Santa Clara to the Hilltop Friday, November 9. Match time against the Broncos is set for 7:00 PM at Negoesco Stadium.
