Nov. 7, 2008
(San Francisco, CA) - Five seniors said goodbye to Negoesco Field as they helped the University of San Francisco to a 2-0 blanking of the Academy of Art at Negoesco Field in non-conference action on Friday night. The Dons improve to 7-8-2, while the Urban Knights fall to 5-8-4. Junior forward Conor Chinn put the Dons up early, scoring at the 24 minute mark to make it 1-0. Chin planted the ball into the right hand corner of the goal, just out of reach of Urban Knight goalie Jose Herrera. Sophomore forward Jonathan McMullen was credited with the assist. Chinn's goal gave him 12 for the season, a career high. The last time a Don had 12 goals in a season was 2004 when Aaron Chandler scored 12 of his own. USF went up 2-0 at 63:54 when freshman forward Felipe Cabrera scored his first goal of the season. Cabrera got the shot off from inside the six yard box after a corner kick from junior midfielder Leon Williams. AAU only managed two shots to USF's 19 in the match. The Dons also held a strong 16-0 corner kick advantage. Urban Knight Keeper Herrera had 10 saves in the match. Chinn led the Dons with seven shots, six on goal. Cabrera had four shots, and junior midfielder Jonathan Levi had three. Senior Eric Conner earned one save in his final home start. Four of five seniors earned the start on Friday with Conner in goal, Bryan VanCura and Kyle Schlumpf on defense, and Jeff Russell in midfield. Goalie Jeremy Coupe was also honored prior to kick off.
USF returns to West Coast Conference action on Sunday, traveling to Saint Mary's to a 2:00 PM start. |
