SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco was up to the challenge against No. 3 Santa Clara Friday evening unfortunately an own goal by the Dons sent the Broncos to a 2-1 victory.

With the loss, USF falls to 6-10-1 on the year, 2-7-1 in West Coast Conference play. Santa Clara, the conference's first place team, improves to 12-1-4, 7-0-2 in the WCC.

Dons' sophomore forward Conor Chinn had USF's lone goal in the 19th minute. Senior midfielder Daniel DeGeer set up Chinn for a header into the net off a free kick. It was Chinn's sixth goal of the season.

The score was evened in the 23rd minute on a misdirected header from the USF defense.

Santa Clara's Kellen Wantulok scored his first goal of the year at 36:25, slipping behind USF's goalkeeper Eric Conner and firing on a pass from Sean Denzeiser.

USF led the Broncos in corner kicks, 6-3. San Francisco and Santa Clara each had 13 shot attempts in the match. Chinn had a match-high four.

San Francisco's next match is set for next Friday versus the Loyola Marymount Lions. Kick off will be at 7 p.m. PT.
