Senior Day Ends With Dons Loss

SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco (7-11-1, 3-8-1 WCC) dropped the 2007 season closing and senior day match to San Diego (11-8-1, 8-3-1 WCC) Sunday at Negoesco Field by a score of 2-1.

San Francisco topped the Toreros 17-7 in shots but only five were on target compared to San Diego's six.

Keeping with the day's theme, USF seniors Jordan Keyes, Ben Dessard and Ardalan Attar hit three consecutive shots in the fourth minute. Attar found net following Dessard's shot which ricocheted off the side goal post.

At 12:27, San Diego's Colin Jennings tied the score with a rocket free kick just past USF goalkeeper Eric Conner's grasp. J.T. Howlan put the Toreros ahead in the 22nd minute by dribbling through a USF defenders legs and powering a shot to the right of a diving Conner.

DeGeer and Dessard had a match-high three shots each. Howlan and Kyle Ochoa led San Diego with two.

Conner and San Diego goalie Kelin Briones both had four saves with seven of the eight coming in the second half.

Sunday's match marked the final appearance at Negoesco Field for San Francisco Attar, Keyes, Dessard, DeGeer, defender Chris Rodd, forward Brandon McDonald. Senior Rob Valentino, the 2006 West Coast Conference Player of the Year and 2007 preseason All-American candidate, will also not return next season. Valentino missed the season due to injury but has opted to move on.
