Four Dons Make WCC Fall All-Academic Teams
Feb. 2, 2010 (San Bruno, CA) - San Francisco landed four student-athletes on the West Coast Conference Fall All-Academic Team, as announced by the conference today. Women's cross country earned two spots, and men's cross country and men's soccer had one each. Junior Nicole Bowler and sophomore Hilary Kigar were named for the women's cross country team. Bowler, who earned her second consecutive honor, did so with a 3.32 G.P.A in History. Kigar, finished the fall semester with a 3.65 G.P.A. in Business Hospitality. On the men's side, sophomore Tyler Alvarez held a 3.24 G.P.A. in Psychology. From the soccer pitch, senior Conor Chinn finished with a 3.27 G.P.A. in Business Administration. Sophomore Omar Elmasri (3.26-Business Administration/men's soccer), senior Samantha Brand (3.22-Exercise and Sport Science/women's soccer), junior Lauren Maris (3.78-Exercise and Sport Science/women's soccer), sophomore Erin Bragg (3.30-Exercise and Sport Science/volleyball), and junior Alaina Sully (3.33-Nursing/volleyball) all earned Honorable Mention. The 2009 West Coast Conference Fall All-Academic teams honor some of the league's finest examples of the consummate scholar-athlete. At the completion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each of the participating sponsored sports. To be considered, a student-athlete must earn at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to his or her team. "The West Coast Conference is proud to recognize these extraordinary student-athletes who are perfect examples of being leaders in both the classroom and the playing field," said WCC Commissioner Jamie Zaninovich.
