(Santa Clara) - Trailing 1-0 in the closing minutes USF's equalizer clanged off the cross bar allowing the San Jose Earthquakes to counter and score in the final seconds as the MLS squad took a 2-0 decision in exhibition play Friday at Buck Shaw Stadium. The young Dons battled but could not get over the hump.

USF head coach Erik Visser was pleased with the way his team responded to the challenge of playing against seasoned professionals.

"I was impressed with the way our team responded against a very talented opponent," Visser said. "We allowed them three scoring opportunities in 90 minutes. Unfortunately they capitalized on two of them. I thought Bryan Burke and Jonathan Levi did a nice job for us up front and Victor Wennberg and Omar Elmasri did an outstanding job in the back."

USF continues its Spring season when it hosts Sacramento State Friday, March 20. Game time against the Hornets is set for 7:30 PM at Negoesco Stadium.
