Rob Valentino Named to US U-23 National Team

May 20, 2008

Former USF soccer standout Rob Valentino has been selected to the US U-23 National Team and will compete in the Toulon International Tournament beginning Wednesday, May 21 when the United States takes on Turkey. Kick off is set for 6:30 AM (PT) from Stade Mayol and will be aired live on Fox Soccer Channel.

Valentino, a Dons All-American and the 2006 West Coast Conference Player of the Year, was a first round draft pick of the New England Revolution. A member of the Hermann Trophy Award Watch list entering the 2007 campaign, Valentino spearheaded the Dons run to back-to-back WCC Championships (2004-05) and catapulted USF Soccer to three consecutive NCAA Tournament berths.

A three-time All-WCC First Team selection and an Honorable Mention All-American, Valentino competed on the U-23 USA National Team in its 2007 trip to Japan and was the only collegiate player to start.

The U.S. will also play Ivory Coast on May 23 and Italy on May 25 in Group B play. All 16 matches of the tournament, including 14 live broadcasts, will be shown on Fox Soccer Channel.
