Tentative 2009 USF Men's Soccer Schedule in PDF Format Get Acrobat Reader

(San Francisco) - USF men's soccer head coach Erik Visser announces the completion of the 2009 schedule, featuring some outstanding competition for the defending West Coast Conference Champions. The Dons play 11 home matches, including five during the non-conference slate at Negoesco Stadium.

USF will test itself against three 2008 NCAA Tournament squads - UMKC, New Mexico and Cal, which reached the third round last season, including an opening round victory against the Dons at Edwards Stadium.

San Francisco opens the season with the annual Negoesco Scrimmage Saturday, August 22 and then welcomes the Kangaroos of UMKC Tuesday, September 1 for the 2009 regular season opener. After a road trip to Albuquerque to take on perennial power New Mexico Saturday, September 5, the Dons host Sacramento State in the BMW/Nike Soccer Challenge Friday, September 11.

USF welcomes Bay Area rival Cal to the Hilltop Thursday, September 17 in the first match of the 2009 Bay Area Soccer Classic and then travels to Palo Alto to take on Stanford on Sunday, September 20. The Dons host longtime Bay Area rival San Jose State Friday, September 25 and then wrap up the non-conference schedule with perennial Ivy League power Brown Sunday, September 27.

San Francisco opens defense of its WCC title when it travels to Southern California to tackle Loyola Marymount and San Diego, beginning Friday, October 2 in Los Angeles. The Dons host ancient Bay Area rival Santa Clara Friday, October 9 in the WCC home opener under the lights at Negoesco.

Other highlights of the WCC double round robin schedule include the Dons traveling to Buck Shaw Stadium Friday November 6 for a match televised live by Fox Soccer Channel. USF plays its 2009 home regular season finale Sunday, November 8 against Saint Mary's.
