(San Francisco) - USF Athletics and Dons soccer lost a beloved member of its extended family with the passing of Erik Lemoine, who lost his courageous battle with cancer Tuesday, November 2. He was 36.

A native of Pleasanton, Lemoine enjoyed a strong three-year career in the Green and Gold from 1994-96 and left an indelible impression on teammates and the coaching staff. A two-time All-West Coast Conference First Team selection and a two-time team MVP, Lemoine helped the Dons to a league title and an NCAA berth in 1995. Remembered for his powerful left foot, Lemoine finished his career on the Hilltop with four goals and 16 assists, including nine as a Dons senior.

"Erik will be remembered for finding the good in all," USF Associate Head Coach and former teammate Josh McKay said. "He had a wonderful sense of humor and a great wit, but most importantly he was a father, husband, son, brother and best friend. Erik represented everything that we envision in our family. He fought hard and battled and left peacefully. We have lost a great one who won't be forgotten."

After graduating from USF with a degree in education, Lemoine passed on the opportunity to pursue a professional soccer career and instead obtained his Master's in Special Education. Lemoine remained actively involved in soccer by coaching numerous youth teams.

"Erik epitomized the values and the traits we look to instill in our student-athletes," USF head coach Erik Visser said. "He faced his battle with cancer with amazing courage and dignity. Erik was so much more than a fine soccer player and a teammate. He inspired those around him regardless of the setting."

Lemoine is survived by his wife Cathleen and a son, Evan.

MEMORIAL ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Valley Community Church, 4455 Del Valle Pkwy, Pleasanton, CA immediately followed by a reception to celebrate his life.
