Personal Born on May 1st, 1987 in Binh Duong, Vietnam...Parents are Son Tu and Anh Chung...Has two brothers, Hein and Thai...Is a graduate of Alameda High School...Prior to USF he was ranked #1 in the Boy's 14's, 16's, and 18's and under for USTA/ Northern California. In 2001 he was the NCS Doubles Champion as a freshman and captured the 2005 NCS Singles Title as a senior...Was voted the 2005 Athlete of the Year from the Alameda Journal news paper...Enjoys watching movies, traveling, listening to music and trying different foods...Currently aSenior majoring in Finance.
When and where did you start playing tennis? --- I started a couple months after my family moved to America, when I was around nine, at a public park with my family. It was something to do while we waited for my older brother to get out of middle school.
What factors led to your decision to attend USF? --- The city is incredible, the campus is close to home, Coach Bartlett is such a great person, and the fact that Coach Bartlett was the first coach to recruit me when I was in high school. I'm glad I'm here because my teammates are amazing and wonderful!
Where would you like to spend a week's vacation? --- I think I would spend it in Thailand and ride those elephants in the water and jungle! Or anywhere tropical with a lot of islands.
What is the best/worst thing about being a college athlete? --- The best thing is you get to travel to many places together with your teammates to compete with the best players and share all the ups and downs together. The worse thing is you have little time to do homework and make-ups because of practice and traveling.
What drives you as a player? --- Competing with other athletes at the highest level and trying to test your abilities and skills against theirs and also wanting to beat them.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? --- It would have to be my hometown in Vietnam for sure! I always spend my summer there and it has never been boring.
If you had a supernatural power, what would it be? --- After seeing the show Heroes that Einar introduced me to, I would have to say the ability to bend space and time like that guy Hiro. So cool! hahaha
Who has had the greatest impact on your athletic career? --- Definitely everyone in my family; we always talk to each other and give advice on how to improve. Hitting with my two brothers, especially my little brother, has gotten me this far.
Name your favorite movie and favorite food. --- I enjoy watching all of the Harry Potter movies when I was little and still do. I love crabs; anything that has crab in it I will eat.
What is the best thing about your hometown? --- There are food stands and restaurants on every street. If you want any Viet food you can get it as long as you know what street it is on.
If you won the lottery, what is the first thing that you would buy or pay for? --- I would buy a house in L.A. close to the beaches.
What is the biggest difference between San Francisco and home? --- The city here is a big tourist attraction so it's always crowded and exciting with all different kinds of people and things, especially downtown.
What class has taught you the most at USF? --- Finance Management junior year.
What is your biggest sports accomplishment? --- I would have to say last year when I split sets with Pepperdine's #1 during the West Coast Conference Fall 2008; we didn't get to finish the match but it felt pretty amazing after because he was top 10 in the nation.
