(San Luis Obispo, CA) - Senior Axel Elvik won a key match at number six singles, 7-5, 5-7, 6-4, to propel the USF men's tennis team to a 4-3 non-conference victory against Cal Poly Sunday at Mustangs Court. Also earning key wins for San Francisco were Joachim Lien with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at number one singles, Jorgen Arnesen with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at number two, while Pablo Pires De Almeida won 7-6 (2), 6-2 at number three.

With the win, the Dons even their 2003 record at 2-2 and a split on the Southern California road trip.

Head coach Peter Bartlett was pleased with the way his team bounced back after a tough outing at Santa Barbara.

"Axel Elvik was the hero for us today. He really stepped up and gave us the win at the number six spot. We played some clutch tennis today. It was needed," Bartlett said.

USF returns to action when they take open up their 2003 home schedule against West Coast Conference and Bay Area rival Santa Clara Wednesday, Jan. 29 at the Olympic Club. The match against the Broncos is scheduled for a 2:00 PM start.
