The USF men's tennis team defeated Bay Area rival Santa Clara 4-1 in the first round of the West Coast Conference Championships Friday morning in San Diego. USF will face #1 seed Pepperdine Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in San Diego.

USF (17-6) got off on the right foot by winning the singles point with wins by Mason Fuller/Joachim Lien 8-1 and Jon Lippert/Alex Elvik 8-2.

USF took three of the four completed singles matches to close out the victory over the Broncos (8-14).

Joachim Lien, the March WCC Player of the Month, defeated Erich Chen 6-2, 6-3; Pablo Pires De Almeida won 7-5, 6-3 and Axel Elvik won 6-3, 6-2.
