Tu Advances To Round of 32 At ITA Regionals

(Berkeley) - San Francisco's Tommy Tu advanced to the round of 32 Friday in the singles main draw of the 2008 Wilson/ITA Northwest Regional Championships in Berkeley, Calif. The senior earned a bye in the first round before earning a straight set 6-0, 6-2 victory over Gonzaga's Jake Davis in the round of 64. The Dons' Michael Carreno and Asaf Cohen also advanced into the round of 64 but neither could avoid dropping into the consolation bracket. Carreno advanced out of the first round when his first match with Christian Kuehne of Pacific was retired. The freshman then dropped second round decision to Patrik Fischer of Washington (6-0, 6-0). Cohen earned a bye in the first round before retiring in a match against Washington's Alex Rosinski in the round of 64. USF's Alex Kotlyar, Torin Ching, Jacob Hartwig, Einar Hart, Peter Steen and Mitch Del Rosario all competed in the round of 128 but were unable to advance in the main draw and will continue play in the consolation bracket when play resumes.
