USF Doubles Advance To Finals

Consolation Bracket in PDF Format Final
The USF doubles duo of Rainer Nachbauer and William Schumacher advanced to the finals of the doubles bracket at the 2009 Battle of the Bay Classic Saturday. The four-day event, which will wrap up Sunday features the top singles players and doubles teams from five Division I schools in the Bay Area - USF, California, Stanford, Saint Mary's and Santa Clara. Admission to the event free for the general public. The Dons double team advanced to the finals Saturday thanks to an 8-5 semifinals victory over Nick Andrews and Tommie Murphy of Cal. USF will face Walker Kehrer and Derek Lin of Stanford. In the main singles draw, second seeded-Thai Tu earned a victory in the quarterfinals, defeating Maxime Olivian of Saint Mary's 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (6). Tu advanced to the semifinals, where he fell 6-3, 6-2 to Derek Lin of Stanford. In the singles final match Sunday, Lin will face Andrew Kells of Santa Clara. In the consolation bracket of singles action, San Francisco's Asaf Cohen won his match against Cal's Murphy, 6-4, 6-1, before dropping his second contest to Zach Gilbert of Cal, 6-3, ret. Also in consolation action, Einar Hart and Nachbauer each dropped their respective contests. Sunday will be Kids Day at the courts, with the finals of both the singles and doubles brackets taking center stage. Action is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. The Dons have worked in conjunction with Harper for Kids, a local non-profit organization, to produce Kids Day at the Cal Club.
