Two Dons make it into the Quarterfinals of the Intercollegiate Championships
Nov. 11, 2002 (Los Angeles) - USF men's tennis continued to play well at the 2002 Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament at the LA Raquet Club. Jorgen Arnesen defeated Aaron Endrikat from UCLA 6-4, 4-6, (10-8) to advance to the Quarterfinals. Joachim Lien also advanced to the Quarterfinals by defeating Lassi Ketola the #5 seeded player from UCLA 6-7, 7-6, 6-2. Pablo Pires De Almeida defaulted his match to Johan Berg (USC) due to illness. USF head coach Peter Bartlett is proud of the way the Dons have competed in the prestigious event.
"Our guys have really been playing well and it's nice to have them get more confidence playing against the best players in the nation. UCLA will be top 10 in the nation this year and they are known to have one of the deepest teams in college tennis. Our guys have shown they can play at that level. It's a great way to wrap up our fall competitions," Bartlett stated.
The doubles qualifying was cancelled due to inclement weather and will not be rescheduled.
