USF Upset Bid Just Short Against No. 22 Wyoming

Jan. 3, 2008

Final Stats

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Hanna Zavecz hit a jumper at the buzzer, and No. 22 Wyoming overcame terrible shooting for a 53-51 victory over San Francisco on Thursday night.

Justina Podziemska scored 19 points and hit a key 3-pointer with 1:02 left, while Zavecz finished with 16 points for the Cowgirls (12-1), who appeared rusty in their return from a 15-day holiday break.

Aubrey Vandiver had eight points and eight rebounds as Wyoming made just 34.7 percent of its shots, including an 0-for-8 performance by senior Jodi Bolerjack.

The Cowgirls' struggles allowed the outmanned Dons (9-6) to stay close. Podziemska's third 3-pointer put the Cowgirls up 51-47, but San Francisco tied it with layups by Necolia Simmons and Jordan Kuzma before Zavecz's winning shot.

Shay Rollins scored 11 points for San Francisco as both teams finished their nonconference schedules. The Dons had 20 turnovers, and no other player managed more than Dominique Carter's six points.
