Box Score

(San Diego) - Senior guard Lindsey Huff moved into a share of 13th place on the all-time USF scoring mark with 16 points to lead USF to a 79-55 West Coast Conference victory Thursday in the Jenny Craig Pavilion. The win is the first for the Lady Dons (12-8, 4-3 WCC) at USD since the 1998 season as the Toreros (11-9, 2-5) drop their fourth consecutive contest.

Huff asserted herself immediately in this one, scoring the first 10 points for the Lady Dons, including back-to-back 3-pointers to start the game. Huff finished 6-of-12 from the floor, including 2-of-3 from long distance, to go along with a pair of rebounds and assists. With a baseline jumper in the second half, Huff became the 14th player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points in the Green and Gold and is currently tied with Kim Bachman (1978-83) with 1,002.

USF took control early and withstood several Torero mini-runs in both halves. The Lady Dons took a 37-25 lead into the locker room and the half and led by as many as 15 in the opening frame. The Lady Dons held a double-digit lead for the entire second half and led by as many as 24 in the final 20 minutes. Sophomore forward Carey Sauer led the charge in the second for USF with 15 of her team-high 17 points on 5-of-7 from the floor and went 6-for-6 at the charity stripe and is now 22-22 from the free throw line during conference play this season.

Junior guard Lisa Whiteside scored 10 points and pulled down five rebounds in 19 minutes, while senior guard Melanie Turner added 11 points in 18 minutes off the USF bench. Freshman center Celeste Farmer scored 10 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds for the Lady Dons as a season-high five players reached double-figure scoring.

USF shot well, converting on .547 (29-53) from the field including .455 (5-11) from 3-point range. San Diego shot a miserable .302 (16-53) and committed 23 turnovers.

San Francisco continues their road trip at Santa Clara on Saturday where they look for their first victory at the Leavey Center since the 1997 campaign. The Lady Dons are scheduled for a 7:00 PM tip against the Broncos.
