Ale Continues Streak As Dons Fall

(Malibu, Calif.) - Rheina Ale continued her double-digit scoring streak Thursday as the USF women's basketball team dropped a 68-49 decision to Pepperdine at Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu, Calif. Ale posted her 12th straight game with 10-plus points, leading the Dons with 11.
With the loss, San Francisco falls to 4-23 overall, 0-10 in West Coast Conference play. Pepperdine improves to 15-8, 6-3 in league play.
The Dons posted a 43.5 shooting percentage in the first half, hitting 10 of 23 shots, but were unable to over come the Waves, trailing for the entire half. Pepperdine held USF scoreless until 16:07, going up 7-0 early. The Dons rallied back to tie the score at 11 at 12:30 but Pepperdine's defense was stifling. San Francisco scored only five points over the next five minutes as Pepperdine went up by as many as 10. The Waves held onto the advantage, taking a 33-25 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Pepperdine continued to roll, going up by as many as 23 late in the half. Despite shooting at a 26.5 clip in the second half, the Waves took advantage of costly USF errors, scoring 16 points on turnovers and 12 points on second chances in the half.
Ale pushed her streak to a dozen late in the game, securing two free throws with 43 seconds remaining to post her 10th and 11th points of the night. The sophomore guard also added four rebounds, three assists and a steal.
Donnisha Taylor joined Ale with double-digit scoring efforts with 10 points, all in the second half. The junior forward added four rebounds, three in the final 20 minutes, and two steals.
Katy Keating posted nine points, all courtesy of three's, with a team-leading six rebounds. Whitney Daniels added six points, while Vania Singleterry and Heidi Anton each scored four.
Pepperdine was paced by Miranda Ayim with 15 points, 10 rebounds. Lauren Bell added a dozen.
San Francisco will take to the court again Saturday when they face Loyola Marymount at Gersten Pavilion at 2 p.m.
