Feb. 16, 2008

Final Stats

(Portland, OR) - Tied at 78-78 with 28 seconds remaining, San Francisco was unable to come away with the win as it fell to Portland 80-78 on Saturday afternoon in West Coast Conference action. The Dons drop their fourth consecutive game, falling to 13-12, 4-6 WCC. With the win, the Pilots (15-11, 5-6 WCC) even up the season series at one a piece.

Despite the loss, two Dons had career nights at the Chiles Center. Junior guard Shay Rollins scored a career-high 23 points and added two rebounds and four assists. Rollin's previous career-high was 22 in a 70-57 win at Sac State (12/5/07).

Senior forward Dominique Carter earned her seventh career double-double, scoring 21 points with 10 rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Carter now has 34 games in which she scored 20 or more points. With the 21 points, Carter is in sole possession of fifth place all-time on the WCC career scoring charts with 1,735. She needs just eight points to pass Saint Mary's Cheree Tappin (1987-91/1,742) for fourth place.

Sophomore forward Heidi Heintz also scored in the double figures, putting down 13 with three rebounds, one assist, and a block.

Portland took off to a 13 point advantage in the first 10 minutes of the game 20-7, and went into half-time with a 41-32 lead. USF would bring the game close, tying it with less than 30 seconds remaining on the clock. After a USF foul, Portland's junior guard Karlie Burris downed two free throws to make it 80-78 with five seconds left. Rollins tried to tie it with a lay-up, but missed, ending the game.

USF took the field goal advantage, .540 (27-50) to .483 (29-60) and the 3-PT field goal advantage .600 (9-15) to .417 (5-12). Portland was 17-17 in free throws, holding out the Dons who went 15-18 (.833). The Dons turned the ball over 21 times, compared to the Pilots 15.
