Recap

San Diego

Kathy Marpe:

Opening Remarks:
"I guess we can beat a team. I have to give a lot of credit to USF, they made a great effort and have a Toni Russel rule, whoever she guards, the other guard carries ball up the floor."

On matchups with USF
"I think it's our post-play. They just don't have the strength we do inside. Both our post players can go inside and out. USF runs al ot of set patterns, and we have pride knowing what a team is going to do before they do it.

On second half offense:
"We wanted to spread the floor and move the ball and we wanted to penetrate more. We wanted to get the line better too. We swing the ball a couple of times; USF wasn't as deep nine the post as we were. Jensen was hurting a little bit. Now we're in better shape than we were in the early part of the season and I think it showed today."

On defense:
"We've developed more of a defensive philosophy. So it allows us to make adjustments. Scoring always starts at the defensive end and we were fast breaking, that's where we score."

On Pep:
They're so athletic and so big, and their players are so good individually. I think they've been sitting and watching. We're on a roll. Three days in a row will tire anyone out, but all we can do is show up and play."

Erin Malich:

On defense: "We wanted to come out well in the first so we wouldn't get in a hole in the second half."

San Francisco

Mary Hile-Nepfel:

Opening Remarks:
"San Diego beat us 3 times and today I felt that we couldn't get the stops that we needed. Our team played hard and was prepared. We just didn't execute, didn't make our shots when we had to, and didn't defend well enough."

"They do a nice job of feeding their post players, their guards do an excellent job and get them the ball. It's very hard to defend."

"Shots were rushed, didn't have enough patience. We wanted to be aggressive. First half our shots didn't fall."

On play of opponents:
"Kerri is a very good player, she's a good leader. She settles them down and can get them the ball. Malich's an all-conf player and she showed that with 22 points. Harris with 16 pts."

On USD's play against Toni Russell:
"They do that every game (bring up the ball with the guard that Russell is not defending). Either Harris or Nakamoto can bring it up. Polly Dong can do it well, too. We wanted to keep Toni on Nakamoto, we felt like that was our best matchup."

"San Diego maybe had the advantage because of playing yesterday. They were calm and settled. Defensively they did some things that caused us to rush. There are some nerves and jitters for that first game. You still have to play. You have to come out and execute."

Joy Hollingsworth

On inside matchup:
"I think their post is excellent."

On attitude entering the game:
"I don't think we were nervous. We just wanted it so bad and we just couldn't have it. We were confident going in but we just didn't bring it tonight."
