Lady Dons Fall To San Francisco Pro-Am 85-69 In Exhibition Opener
Nov. 3, 2002 (San Francisco) - USF women's basketball opened the 2002-2003 exhibition season with a 85-69 loss to the San Francisco Pro-Am Sunday at War Memorial Gym. The loss spoiled a monster return by junior forward Mary Jane Krueger, who poured in a game-high 19 points to go along with 21 rebounds in her first contest since tearing her ACL nearly one year ago. San Francisco, with just eight players suited up for the contest led for most of the first half until the 1:03 mark when the pro-am took the lead for good, building a four point, 38-34 lead at the half. The Pro-Am exploded out of the gates in the second half and shot at a .528 (19-36) clip from the floor, including .385 (5-13) from 3-point distance. Krueger went 6-for-17 from the floor and 7-of-10 from the charity stripe and 12 of her rebounds were off the offensive glass. Sophomore guard Toni Russell enjoyed a solid day for San Francisco with 17 points, seven steals and four assists. Senior guard Lisa Whiteside and junior forward Carey Sauer each added 10 points. Former Lady Dons had big days for the San Francisco Pro-Am led by Melanie Turner's 19 points, while Krista Knapp poured in 15. Molly Shanley also had six points and four rebounds in her return to War Memorial Gym. Former Stanford star Enjoli Izidor had 15 points off the bench, while former Santa Clara standout Caroline Gruening added 10 points.
