USF Women's Basketball Cruises to a 76-57 Victory against Strakonice BBC

(San Francisco) - USF women's basketball team hosted Strakonice BBC from the Czech Republic and took a 76-57 decision in the final exhibition tune-up for the regular season Tuesday night at War Memorial Gym. The Dons now turn their focus towards the 2004-2005 season opener at Colorado State Friday, November 19 in Fort Collins.
With the win, San Francisco avenged an earlier loss to Strakonice suffered during their 2004 European Summer Tour of the Czech Republic.
USF used their size and quickness to good advantage early as senior center Mary Jane Krueger enjoyed another strong exhibition outing, scoring 14 points to go along with five rebounds in the first half alone. Krueger converted on 7-of-10 from the floor in 15 minutes of work in the opening period and finished with a game-high 22 points and nine rebounds.
San Francisco got some quality play from their newcomers as freshman guard Nykia Peace added 12 points, six rebounds and five assists, while freshman center Lisa Olden added 12 points and five rebounds off the bench in 19 minutes. Freshman guard Lashaunte Stephens chipped in eight points and five assists.
Junior forward Jenni Jones scored nine points and dished out four assists, while senior center Leeane Jensen added eight points, three rebounds and three assists for the Dons.
Martina Hulkova scored a team-high 12 points for Strakonice, while Blanka Ptrovicka added 10 points.
San Francisco seized a 38-22 lead at the half and converted on .593 (16-27) from the floor and held a 21-9 rebound advantage. The Dons shot .574 (27-47) for the contest, while Strakonice shot .352 (19-54) from the field.
