Dons Drop 80-70 Decision To Eastern Washington

(Cheney, Wash.) - Three Dons scored in double-digits, including a game-high 23 points by Danesha Wright, but the USF women's basketball team dropped an 80-70 decision to Eastern Washington University at Reese Court in Cheney, Wash. With the loss, San Francisco falls to 1-2 on the season, while Eastern Washington improves to 1-1 overall.

San Francisco and Eastern Washington played close in the first half as the score was tied four times and changed three times. In the opening stanza, the Dons shot at a .406 clip to take a 38-33 advantage into halftime. The Eagles took over in the second half, scoring 16 points off the bench and hitting 14 free throws to secure the victory. In the second stanza, Eastern Washington took a two-point lead at 12:11 in the second half and didn't look back, leading for the rest of the contest.

Wright led the Dons on the evening with 23 points, going 6-for-9, including 4-for-5 from 3-point territory. The junior guard also hit 7-of-10 from the free throw line and pulled down two rebounds, while dishing out a pair of assists.

Seniors Shay Rollins and Necolia Simmons also recorded double-digit points for USF. Rollins, a guard, tallied 21 points with two assists and two steals, while Simmons, a forward, posted her sixth career, and first of the season, double-double thanks to 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Freshman guard Rheina Ale posted a team-high three assists while pulling down five boards. Freshman guard Vania Singleterry recorded six points, with a pair of rebounds, while rookie forward Katy Keating posted four points. Sophomore forward Donnisha Taylor also added a pair of points for San Francisco.

 

 

The Eagles were paced by four players with double-digit points, including a team-high 20 points by Kyla Evans. Nicole Scott posted a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds for Eastern Washington, while Julie Piper and Amy Bratvold recorded 16 and 11 points, respectively.

The Dons return to Northern California to resume play Tuesday at UC Davis. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
