Rollins, Ale Named To odwalla Classic All-Tournament Team

(San Francisco, Calif.) - Senior guard Shay Rollins and freshman guard Rheina Ale were named to the odwalla Classic All-Tournament team Saturday as the Dons dropped an 83-71 decision to Washington State at War Memorial Gym to wrap-up the three-day tournament. During the contest with the Cougars (3-2), Rollins led the Dons (2-4) with 19 points. Rollins was named to the tournament team after averaging 18.5 points in the Dons' two games. Saturday against Northern Colorado, Rollins posted 18 points with a pair of steals, before recording 19 points Sunday with four assists and six rebounds. Ale earned an All-Tournament selection after averaging 19.5 points in the two contests. Against the Bears, Ale tied a school record going 9-for-9 for a perfect 1.000 shooting percentage with 21 points. Sunday, Ale continued her strong scoring; posting 18 points with three boards and four assists. Washington State opened the game on an 8-0 run before the Dons opened a 10-0 streak to take a lead at 11:44. The Cougars answered, regaining the lead at 7:46 and never looked back, leading the remainder of the contest. For the game, the Dons shot at .431 clip, including .267 from 3-point range, while the Cougars posted a .493 average and just .214 from beyond the arc, including a .167 average in the second half. Joining Rollins and Ale as double-digit scorers for USF on Sunday was senior center Necolia Simmons and junior guard Danesha Wright. Simmons posted 18 points for the Dons, with four rebounds, three offensive. Wright recorded a dozen points for the Dons while pulling down a team-high 8 boards. Also scoring for San Francisco was sophomore forward Donnisha Taylor, who recorded four points and tied a career-high with five rebounds.
April Cook led the Cougars with 22 points on the afternoon, while Jazmine Perkins, Heather Molzen and Katie Appleton also recorded double-digits for WSU. In addition to Rollins and Ale, the Cougars' Perkins and Cook, as well as Northern Colorado's Courtney Stoermer were named to the odwalla Classic All-Tournament Team. Perkins was awarded the MVP of the event thanks to 41 total points and 16 rebounds. The Dons will return to action Wednesday as they host Oregon State on the Hilltop. Tip-off with the Beavers is scheduled for 6 p.m. |
