San Francisco, CA (January 9) - Freshman forward, Carey Sauer poured in a career-high 18 points in 24 minutes as the Lady Dons went on a 29-7 run to finish the first half and cruised to a 90-59 victory against the Titans of Cal State Fullerton (1-11) Sunday in War Memorial Gym. With the victory, the Lady Dons finish the non-conference portion of the schedule with a 7-6 overall mark, equaling last year's victory total.

San Francisco's potent offense and stifling defensive pressure overwhelmed Fullerton especially in the first half when the Lady Dons shot .677 (21-31) from the floor and finished the afternoon at .516 (33-64). USF's swarming defense forced 24 Titan turnovers, and collected a season-high 17 steals, led by senior guard Jennifer Madkins who swiped a season-high seven. The Lady Dons outrebounded the Titans 43-29.

USF led 52-39 at half time and built a 30-point lead at the 16:58 mark, 63-33. Cal State Fullerton closed the deficit to 23 with 7:10 remaining, but USF extended the lead back to 30 points with two minutes to go. The 90 points the Lady Dons scored were the most USF has put on the scoreboard since downing Cal Poly 101-42 during 1996-97 season.

Sauer finished with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Madkins added a season-high 17 points and dished out three assists. Junior center, Kim Whisler poured in a season-high 13 points, ripped down two rebounds and dished out two assists and collected two steals and a blocked shot in 16 minutes of action. Senior forward, Sarah Wanless was one point shy of a double-double and finished with nine points and game-high 11 rebounds.

USF now prepares for the start of West Coast Conference play this week when they host Gonzaga Friday and the Portland Pilots Saturday at War Memorial Gym. Tip-offs are scheduled for 7:00 PM.
