Jennifer Madkins and Lindsey Huff sizzled in the backcourt as San Francisco defeated the University of Portland 73-58 at War Memorial Gym on Saturday night. Madkins led the Lady Dons with 18 points, and Huff added 16, going 4 of 6 from behind the arc, as USF earned their first West Coast Conference victory of the season.

It was an important victory for the Lady Dons who could not afford to drop to 0-2 on their home floor in the early going of league play. Tonight's contest added another chapter to one of the premiere rivalries on the West Coast. Over the last twelve years, USF and Portland have accounted for six regular season titles, four tournament championships, and have participated in seven NCAA tournaments in 12 years.

Freshman Carey Sauer earned her second double-double of the season adding 13 points and ripped down 14 rebounds in the victory. Senior forward Sarah Wanless also posted 11 points. San Francisco also shot 16 of 24 from the free throw line, and out-rebounded the Pilots 43-31.

Sharon Rissmiller led Portland with a game-high 22 points.

San Francisco improves to 8-7 on the season, 1-1 in the West Coast Conference. Portland falls to 7-10, 0-2 in conference play.

The Lady Dons next travel to Southern California to play Loyola Marymount on Friday, January 21 at 7:00 PM.
