Dons Basketball Sweep WCC Player of Week Honors
Feb. 3, 2003 Women's Basketball center Leeane Jensen and men's basketball forward Darrell Tucker were each selected West Coast Conference Player of the Week in their respective sports as the Lady Dons and Dons each defeated Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount last weekend. Tucker, who was injured January 2nd at Michigan, returned to action this weekend. He came off the bench to record double doubles in both games (21 points, 11 rebounds vs. Pepperdine and 23 points/11 rebounds vs. LMU) as USF defeated the Waves 87-77 and the Lions 91-73. Jensen was terrific for the Lady Dons, averaging 18.5 points on .625 (15-24) from the field to go along with 6.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks. The Morro Bay native shattered her previous career-high (11 points) on consecutive nights with 16 points as USF won in Firestone Field House for the first time since 1997 and then poured in 21 points the next night to lead the Lady Dons to their first win in Gersten Pavilion since 1999. In the second half against the Lions, Jensen converted on 6-of-8 from the floor to hand the Lions only their second loss at home on the year. USF becomes the first team since Santa Clara in 2000-2001 to complete the Los Angeles sweep.
The Lady Dons host St. Mary's Saturday at 8:00 p.m. (Fox Sports Bay Area) and the men visit St. Mary's Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
