Broncos Use Free-Throws To Ice 72-65 Victory Over San Francisco
Junior forward Jennifer Glysson scored a career high 16 points and Santa Clara built a 20-point lead before hanging on for the 72-65 victory over visiting USF in a West Coast Conference game at Toso Pavilion. The win, Santa Clara's fourth in a row, coupled with Loyola Marymount's 70-68 loss at Pepperdine, gives the Broncos sole possession of third place in the WCC at 7-4. In addition, Santa Clara improves to a season high 10 games above .500 overall with a record of 17-7. USF falls to 10-14 and 3-8. Glysson, who has made each of her last 10 shots dating to last Friday's victory over Saint Mary's, was a perfect 6-of-6 from the floor and 4-of-4 from the free throw line. She was joined in double figures by Tammy Annas, who scored 13 points off the bench, as well as Katie Pursley (11) and Annie Garrison (10). Lindsey Huff and Nicole Raleigh each scored 13 points for USF while Krista Knapp added 11. Raleigh connected on all five of her field goal attempts. USF scored the first basket of the game to take its only lead, and from there Santa Clara went on a 29-13 run to take a 29-14 lead with 4:43 left in the half. Annas drilled both of her three point attempts en route to a 12-point first half as Santa Clara took a 35-25 lead into intermission.
Santa Clara opened the second half with a 17-7 run to take its biggest lead of the game,
a 20-point margin at 52-32 with 11:41 to go. However, the Lady Dons would fight back, as
Raleigh hit a three pointer to key a 25-12 run over the next ten minutes. When Knapp drilled
a three pointer with 1:27 to play, USF was within seven at 64-57. The Broncos then used
clutch free throw shooting to ice the victory, with Pursley connecting on 5-of-6 from the
charity stripe. A jumper by Raleigh at the buzzer provided the final 72-65 margin.
