Rheina Ale Earns WCC Accolades

(San Bruno, Calif.) - Rheina Ale, a sophomore guard for the University of San Francisco women’s basketball team, has been awarded All-West Coast Conference honorable mention accolades for the 2010 season, as announced by the conference office Monday. The league’s head coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their own team, voted on the first team and honorable mention selections.
The native of Carson, Calif. started all 14 league contests, leading the Dons with 12.6 points per game. The 5-8 guard averaged 4.9 rebounds against WCC foes, while dishing out a team-high 33 assists with 14 steals and six blocks. Ale finished the conference season ranking in the top-15 in six lists – scoring (12th/12.6), assists (T10th/2.4), free throw percentage (8th/.806), three point field goals made (9th/1.4), defensive rebounds (8th/4.3) and minutes played (10th/32.9).
In 14 league West Coast Conference contests, Ale recorded double-digits in all but two games, including two tilts with 17 points. She also led the USF scoring efforts in all but one game, while appearing in the box score as the top-rebounding force twice.
For the entire 2009-10 season, Ale averaged a team-leading 13.2 points and 4.4 rebounds. She dished out 74 assists, while pacing the Dons with 32 steals. the team co-captain ranked in the top-20 in the conference in all games in seven categories – scoring (11th/13.2), rebounding (20th/4.4), free throw percentage (3rd/.841), three point field goal percentage (6th/.365), three point field goals made (5th/1.9), defensive rebounds (13th/3.3) and minutes played (3.3).
The honorable mention nod marks the first of Ale’s career and the 17th honorable mention accolade in program history. In total, the Dons have earned 47 All-WCC honors.
