We are just days away from leaving for Europe and the excitement is rising - fast. The team practiced throughout the weekend before taking Monday and Tuesday off. Everyone is almost done, if not finished, with their finals and I think the realization that we are actually going to Scandinavia this weekend is starting to set in. For some, including seniors Shay, Leslie and Alexis - who will graduate Friday, I think the excitement may not come full swing until we are about leave campus at 4:30 Sunday morning.
The team continues to have strong practices and continues to educate each other through their presentations. So far, I think we have learned about lutefisk, smorgasboards, Skansen, the Vasa, the Kon-tiki, the Fram and the Viegland Sculptures. It clicked today, finally, with the team that the historical things that we were learning about are actually things and places we are going to visit on our trip. I have gotten into the fun a bit as well. Coach Haave has asked that I make little presentations on Sweden, Norway and Denmark.
The highlight of the pre-practice chat today was, when talking about traveling between Stockholm, Oslo and Copenhagen, Coach Haave told the girls that between Norway and Denmark, we would be abroad an overnight cruise ship. No joke, the girls started jumping up and down with Coach explained that the boat would be much like a cruise ship that we normally think of with restaurants, pools, shops and all those luxuries.. It was at that moment that I think the girls may have finally gotten really excited about what we are about to embark on.
Friday, I will be posting a question and answer segment with Coach about the trip to kind of kick-off full coverage of our "Viking Voyage".
Stay tuned...
