Coach Azzi Meets President Obama

7/20/2010

• The story about Coach Azzi at the White House is up, read it here. Also, on the White House website there is video of Ceremony with the Mercury, if you watch when it shows the audience, Coach Azzi is front and center. In addition, there are two YouTube videos of the event - including one with Coach Azzi and President Obama. Watch the videos here and here.

• All the coaches have returned for the recruiting dead period and in the midst of it all, Coach Azzi got a big phone call. A call inviting her to the White House Monday. Check out the release here. Make sure to check back Monday for a full recap of the events from Washington!

• It's recruiting season! The Dons' coaching staff is busy out recruiting the future of USF Women's Basketball and during the midst of it, Coach Azzi took time to participate in a WNBA Cares FIT Event in Connecticut. The event coincides with the USA Basketball vs. WNBA All-Stars game. Check photos from the event on the USF WBB Facebook Page.

• The Dons hosted its annual camp last week at War Memorial Gym. The camp was a big success, with fun had by all. Photos from camp can be found on the Dons' facebook page. While you're at it, become a fan of the Dons on Facebook! Its a great way to stay in touch with the program and keep up to date with all the women's hoops happenings on the Hilltop!

• Last week, "This Week In Dons Basketball" returned! The most recent episode featured an interview with George Devine, the Dons' radio announcer, and Coach Azzi. Check it out here.

• The San Francisco Chronicle artice featuring Coach Azzi was on the front, and continued on the back, page of the Sports Section last Saturday (6/5/10). The article, which was written by Susan Slessor, is quite lengthy and can be read here.

First Pitch Photo Gallery

• Coach Azzi threw out the first pitch at the Giants Game Wednesday, June 2 against the Colorado Rockies. Several other Olympians for the pitch, including USF Softball standout Jennie Finch and members from the 2010 Winter Olympic Team, accompanied her on the field.

• Prior to the game, Azzi and Olympians residing in the Bay Area, including associate head coach Katy Steding, were part of a reception sponsored by the Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee (BASOC). All former Olympians, and Para-Olympians, were then recognized on the field before the Giants game.

• Fans, it's your chance to get to know the returning members of the 2010-11 Dons' women's basketball team. The Dons sat down a few weeks ago to talk about USF basketball and a few, fun things about themselves. Check the videos out.

• Make sure to pick up tomorrow's (6/5/10) edition of the San Francisco Chronicle. Coach Azzi and the Dons will be featured on the front page of the sports section. Chronicle writer Susan Slessor spent a day on the Hilltop last week, learning what it takes to take over a program.

• It's the summer, which means it's time for camp! Make sure you sign up for the Jennifer Azzi basketball camps. Three camps are offered this summer, two individual camps and an Elite Camp. Information can be found here.
