USF Women's Basketball head coach Tanya Haave announced the hiring of MBA student Venice Adams as the Director of Basketball Operations for the 2008-09 season.
"Venice was a senior at Denver when I coached there and she'll be a great asset to our team here at USF. She gives us much needed administrative help and has a wonderful personality and great work ethic. I'm really excited that she wanted to be here," said Haave.
Adams received a full scholarship to the University of Denver and earned Sunbelt Conference Honor Roll Awards from 2004-2006. The two year Team Captain (2004-06) was awarded as the Comeback Player of the Year for Denver as well as All-Sunbelt Conference Third Team honors in 2005-06. Through her career at Denver, Adams earned three tournament MVP honors and three Outstanding Student honors.
After college, Adams played professionally overseas. In Denmark (2006-07) with Aabyhøj Basketball, she set two records for the country - most rebounds in a game and the most free-throw attempts in a game. She led the country in defensive and offensive rebounds and free-throw attempts. For her individual team, Adams had the most points in a game (39) and was named the Team MVP. Adams was also named to the All-Imports Team and the All-Star First Team.
Adams began the 2007-08 season with the Perik Jumpers in Holland, playing in four games before suffering a season ending hand injury.
"I came to USF mainly for the opportunity to work with Tanya. She taught me a lot about the game while at Denver, but I'm excited to learn a different side of the game from a coaching perspective," Adams said.
Adams is working toward her MBA in International Business and Marketing.
