USF Falls to Bay Area Pro-Am 78-76 In Exhibition Opener

San Francisco trailed by as many as 12 points in the first half, but went on an 11-4 run to end the first 20 minutes, capped by a lay-up by freshman center Mary Jane Krueger with 23 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to 36-31 at the half. USF continued the run in the opening minutes of the second period and outscored the All Stars 10-4 and took a slim 41-40 lead at the 16:59 mark. Then Valerie Gillon, Jamie Redd and Forenberry went on a tear, combining for 29 second half points and built a seven point 75-68 lead with 1:59 remaining on Redd's fifth 3-pointer of the game. Redd finished 5-5 from behind the arc. Huff led USF offensively with 17 points on 7-of-12 from the floor and dished out six assists for the Lady Dons. Junior guard Melanie Turner added 11 points, while junior forward Molly Shanley added 10. Krueger also scored 11 points and pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds eight on the offensive glass. Former USF star, Gillon capped her return to War Memorial with a 18 point, six rebound performance in 22 minutes of action. Redd finished with a game-high 22 points on 8-13 from the floor.
USF returns to exhibition action next Saturday, Nov. 11 when the host a touring international team from Latvia. Game
time is at 2:00 PM at War Memorial Gym.
