Women's Basketball Signs A Pair
Nov. 11, 2009
(San Francisco)- USF women's basketball and head coach Tanya Haave have announced the signing of two future Dons to National Letters of Intent Wednesday. Savannah Erskine and Alexa Hardick will join the USF program in the fall of 2010.
"Both Savannah and Alexa are great fits on and off the floor for our program," said Haave, who enters her fourth season on the Hilltop. "They both have a specific skill set that will be an asset to our team. Savannah is a true point guard and Alexa, a true shooting guard. Thanks to their character, attitudes and work ethic, they will compliment our current program and be great additions to our future. As a staff, we are pleased to announce the signing of the pair. I would also like to congratulate our staff on signing Savannah and Alexa."
Erskine will come to the Hilltop from Culver City High School in Southern California. The 5'7 point guard is a three year starter for the Centaurs and a two-year captain. She was named the Most Valuable player for Culver City as a freshman and a junior, while earning First Team All-Ocean League and Second Team All-CIF accolades last season. All three years, the varsity letter winner ranked in the top-five in the league in steals, assists and points. As a junior, Erskine averaged 10 points, four assists and four steals per game. Erskine also competed for the Cal Storm AAU team.
"Savannah is very instinctual in the way she plays, with an outstanding feel for the game," added Haave. "She is a real student of the game, who wants to get everyone involved. She loves her teammates and understands the true concept of a team."
Hardick joins San Francisco from Bishop Lynch High School in Dallas, Texas. The 5'7 guard was named the TAPPS 1 - 5A MVP last season and is a two-time TAPPS All-State honoree, including a first team selection as a junior. During her junior campaign, she also earned TAPPS State All-Tournament accolades and was named to the Dallas Morning News All-Area Third Team. As a sophomore, Hardick was awarded TAPPS 1 - 6A Offensive Player of the Year honors while also garnering TAPPS 1-6A All-District and Second Team All-State accolades. She averaged 9.3 points per game as a sophomore before averaging 15.3 points and 3.7 assists per outing last season.
"Alexa joins us from one of the most successful high school programs in Texas. Going into her senior year, she has won three state championships and is looking for her fourth," Haave said. "She knows what it takes to win and has the drive to do so. Alexa is a gym rat and a good shooter. Playing in the West Coast Conference was a big factor in her decision."
The USF women's basketball program will kick off the 2009-10 campaign next Tuesday, Nov. 17, as they travel to UC Davis at 7 p.m. The Dons will open the home slate of the campaign, Friday Nov. 20 as they host Cal State Fullerton at War Memorial Gym. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
