Both opposing head coaches entered War Memorial Gym with 199 career victories. Unfortunately for USF, Montana State head coach Frank McCarthy collected his 200th as his Bobcats seized a 60-55 victory against the Lady Dons in non-conference women's basketball action on Sunday, December 10. For the second game in a row, USF (3-3) could not find their shooting stroke, although Montana State (4-3) only shot slightly better at .377 (20-53).

For the second straight game, USF's defense forced more than 20 turnovers after causing a season-high 28 against Cal last Tuesday, but the Lady Dons converted the Bobcats' 24 miscues into just 14 points.

San Francisco led 25-21 at halftime but the lead only held up until the 16:42 mark in the second half when the Bobcats took control and never surrendered the lead. USF fought all the way back to tie the game at 55 with 1:33 remaining, on a pair of free throws by senior center Kim Whisler. But once again, Montana State found an answer and reeled off five unanswered points to secure their third consecutive victory.

Senior guard Amy Meckling willed Montana State to the win and hit a game-high 27 points, including 4-for-8 from 3-point range. Junior guard Rebecca Alvidrez added nine points and dished out nine assists for the Bobcats.

Whisler led USF offensively with 13 points and added seven rebounds, while junior guard Alicia Hernandez added 12 points and five assists. Junior forward Molly Shanley chipped in 11 points for the Lady Dons.

USF returns to action next Sunday, Dec. 17, when they travel to Ames, Iowa for a game against #7 Iowa State.
