Hile-Nepfel Collects Win #200 with 71-63 Win Against Cal Poly
Hile-Nepfel becomes third USF coach to record 200 wins At no point during the contest would this game be considered a thing of beauty as the two teams combined for 38 turnovers and 45 personal fouls. Neither team shot well from the floor, but USF came up with an answer after every Mustang run. Freshman center Mary Jane Krueger posted her first career double-double with 11 points and a career-high 15 rebounds (seven offensive), and sophomore guard Alicia Hernandez scored 14 points and added four rebounds to complement Hofmann who went 7-for-14 from the floor and added seven rebounds. Junior guard Lindsey Huff came off the bench to add 13 points and dished out three assists in 22 minutes, while senior center Kim Whisler scored eight points and pulled down seven boards as the Lady Dons held a 47-38 advantage on the glass. Kristy Baker led the way for the Mustangs with 12 points as Cal Poly falls to 1-4 against West Coast Conference opponents. With the win, Hile-Nepfel becomes only the third coach in USF history to reach the 200 victory milestone in her career on the Hilltop. The only two coaches who have previously reached and surpassed 200 career victories are NCAA soccer legend Stephen Negoesco (544) and longtime Dons' Hall of Famer, baseball coach Dante Benedetti (299).
USF returns to action after the Christmas holiday when they host Maryland, Dec. 28. Tip-off is
at 7:00 PM at War Memorial Gym.
