Women's Basketball Overwhelms Idaho State, 59-34 For Third Straight Win
Pocatello, Idaho - San Francisco dominated Idaho State defensively, allowing the Bengals just 13 second-half points and cruised to a 59-34 victory at Holt Arena. For the Lady Dons (5-4) it was their third consecutive victory, their longest streak since the 1996-97 campaign. USF punished the Bengals on the offensive and defensive glass outrebounding Idaho State (2-7) 47-25. Freshman forward Carey Sauer turned in another solid performance for the Lady Dons and scored 14 points and added five rebounds, four on the offensive glass, while senior forward Sarah Wanless scored 10 and pulled down a game-high eight boards. USF's front line dominated the Bengals inside and the Lady Dons received strong contributions off the bench from junior center Rachel Mahar who scored six points and added four rebounds and junior center Kim Whisler who ripped down seven rebounds and scored four points in just eight minutes. Lady Dons co-head coach Bill Nepfel was pleased with USF's balanced attack. "We are extremely excited about the way we played tonight. That was a good team we and we feel good about our effort. This is our best performance, sustained over 40 minutes this season," Nepfel commented. USF's defense allowed just four field goals in the second half and held Idaho State to just .279 from the floor (12-43) while the Lady Dons converted on .421 of their attempts (24-57). Junior guard, Chris Urbanski was the lone highlight for the Bengals, scoring 14 points and was 4-7 from long distance
