USF & San Jose State Set To Host 2004 Bay Area Classic

USF and San Jose State will serve as co-hosts for the 2004 Bay Area Classic. The popular event, now in its eighth year takes place at The Golf Club at Boulder Ridge in San Jose Feb. 16-17.
Boulder Ridge, designed by world-renowned golf architect Brad Benz, is the newest private golf course in the Bay Area, and is the home course of LPGA player Christina Kim of San Jose and PGA Player John Ellis. Champions Tour Player and NBC golf analyst Roger Maltbie is a frequent player. The par-72 course will play at 6,006 yards for the event.
The 2004 edition of the Bay Area Classic boasts a solid field, highlighted by #9 Washington, who captured the team title in 2001. San Francisco enters the event ranked #40 in the current Golfweek rankings. UW's Paige MacKenzie is ranked 12th nationally, while USF's Kristi Larsen rates 33rd.
Two-time champion Cal owns the tournament single round (284) and overall (582) records en route to the 2002 title (298, 284). Two-time medalist Kelli Kamimura owns the individual tournament low after shooting a six-under 138 (69, 69) for the Huskies in 2001. Kamimura also owns the single-round record after firing a five-under 67 in 1999. Last season, USF placed third in the event won for the second straight year by #4 Cal.
In addition to co-hosts #40 USF and #54 San Jose State, the tournament field includes #51 BYU, Cal Poly, #69 Cal State Northridge, #87 Colorado, #60 Colorado State, #80 Hawaii, #76 Long Beach State, # 74 New Mexico State, #66 Portland State, Santa Clara, #86 UC Irvine and 2001 Bay Area Classic champion #9 Washington.

Boulder Ridge features dramatic views of the Santa Clara Valley and the Santa Cruz mountains, some of the oldest trees in California, plus massive rock formations quarried in the 19th century and used to construct the first building at Stanford University and downtown San Jose.
