(Cooperopolis, CA) - USF women's golf shot 613 (308, 305) and stand in second place after the opening day of the 2005 West Coast Conference Championships held at the Saddle Creek Golf Club. The Dons are 30 strokes behind No. 5 Pepperdine with one round remaining and lead third place Santa Clara by 33 shots.
Senior Mariko Shimozaki continued her strong play and leads USF with a 151 (76, 75), good for a share of fourth place. Freshman Chaneng Joe is in sixth place with a 152 (73, 79) and junior Nikki Jacoby shares eighth place at 155 (80, 75), while freshman Jessica Potter rounds out the top-10 individuals with 156 (79, 77).
Runner-ups in six WCC Championships and winners of the 1997 and 2001 event, USF tees off in final round action Tuesday at 7:30 AM.
