(Vallejo, CA) - Cal fired a remarkable 284 in the final round of the 2002 Bay Area Classic co-hosted by the Golden Bears and USF, to win the team title with a 582 (298, 284) beating runner-up Idaho's 598 (297, 301) by 13 strokes. Cal swept the top-four spots in the tournament including individual medallist Anne Walker, who fired a three-under 141 (70, 71). Denver finished third at 614 (305, 309), the Lady Dons finished fourth with a 617 (302, 315), while San Diego State rounded out the top five with a 621 (304, 317).

Cal's win marks the first Bay Area Classic title for either one of the co-hosts of the event and the Golden Bear's 284 is the lowest round in the six year history of the event, bettering the tally of 1999 team champion Pepperdine, who recorded a 289 in the opening round. Cal also recorded the lowest tournament team score of 584, which ties the Cal team 36-hole event record. USF's fourth place finish in the event equaled last year's placing although the Lady Dons shaved 29 strokes from last season's total.

Cal teammates Ria Quiazon (75, 72), Sarah Huarte (78, 69) and Claire Drury (75, 72) each shared runner-up individual honors. Huarte's 69 on Tuesday was the lowest round of the tournament. Idaho teammates Nicole Keller (75, 73) and Noelle Hamilton (74, 74) and Portland's Sarah Walter (73, 75) shared fifth place. Joan Shimozaki (74, 77) claimed a share of ninth place for USF's top finish with 151.

Hiddenbrooke Golf Course In Vallejo served as the tournament site for the second consecutive year. The Arnold Palmer Signature Course played at par-72 with a yardage of 5,931.
