USF Women's Golf Places 9th at Inaugural Bruin Wave Invitational

(Santa Clarita, CA) - USF women's golf shot a final round 297 and jumped two spots to for a ninth place finish at the inaugural Bruin Wave Invitational Wednesday at the Robinson Ranch Golf Course. Playing its first event of the spring season, the Dons finished strong after a rough start and vaulted five spots up the leader board against an elite field featuring no fewer than seven top-25 programs.
USF entered the event ranked No. 44 in the current GolfStat rankings and posted a pair of top-50 wins against No. 33 Oregon and No. 42 UNLV. The Dons posted a 54-hole tally of 900 (312, 291, 297) on the par -72 course playing at 6,282 yards.
Senior Danielle Cvitanov was the top finisher for the Dons in a share of 18th place at 4-over 220 (79, 70, 71). The reigning West Coast Conference Player of the Year recovered from a rocky start to lead the Green and Gold in birdies (11) and holes at par or better (44). Junior Tinna Johannsdottir fired a 1-over 73 in final round action.
USC won the team event at 2-over 866 (286, 294, 286), two shots in front of Arizona State at 868 (294, 288, 286). The co-host Bruins, the 36-hole leader faltered finishing at 8-over 872 (286, 290, 296) one shot better than co-host Pepperdine at 873 (288, 292, 293). Arizona rounded out the top-five teams at 875 (283, 299, 293).
USF returns to action when it competes in the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational, beginning Monday, March 8 in the South Bay. The Dons will square off against a quality field at the Almaden Golf and Country Club located in South San Jose.
