USF Women's Golf Sixth After Day One of Spartan Invitational

(San Jose) - USF women enters final round of the 2008 Spartan Invitational in sixth place after shooting a 612 (308, 304) Monday at the Almaden Country Club. San Francisco enters the final 18 holes just three strokes from cracking the top-five in a solid field competing on the par-72 course, playing at 6,179 yards.

San Jose leads its event at 596 (297, 299), two strokes in front of Cal at 598 (299, 299) and four in front of UC Irvine at 600 (298, 302). Washington shot 601 (302, 299) and North Carolina rounds out the top-five at 609 (305, 304) - thee strokes in front of the Dons.

Senior Jessica Potter leads the Dons in fourth place at 147 (74, 73), while sophomore Danielle Cvitanov is in a logjam at 19th place at 153 (75, 78). Potter led the tournament field with eight birdies on the day and Cvitanov was third in par holes with 26 after 36 holes in the books.

USF competes in the final round Tuesday with an 8:00 AM shotgun start.
