USF Women's Golf Finishes Fifth at 2008 Spartan Invitational

(San Jose) - USF women fired the second lowest team round of the day, vaulting into fifth place with a 300, finishing at 912 (308, 304, 300) to close out the 2008 Spartan Invitational Tuesday at the Almaden Country Club. San Francisco trimmed four strokes off its score from each round in a solid field competing on the par-72 course, playing at 6,179 yards. California won the team title at 899 (299, 299, 301), followed by the host school San Jose State at 904 (297, 299, 308). UC Irvine placed third at 906 (298, 302, 306) and Washington finished one stroke in front of the Dons at 911 (302, 299, 310). Sophomore Christina Stockton was the top individual for USF, finishing ninth at 226 (81, 74, 71) and was the only Don to turn in a round at par or better in the event. Sophomore Danielle Cvitanov (75, 78, 75) and senior Jessica Potter (74, 73, 81) each finished tied for 12th at 228. Stockton and Potter led the field with eight birdies, while Cvitanov was third in par holes at 37. Stockton rated third in the field in par-4 scoring at +3 (4.10). Freshman Natasha Podmore carded an eagle for USF San Francisco returns to action when it competes in the 2008 UNLV Spring Rebel Invitational, beginning Monday, March 10 in Las Vegas.
