USF Women's Golf Shares Seventh Place of 2005 San Jose State Spartan Invitational

(Salinas, CA) -- UCLA holds a tight one-shot lead over Washington in women's golf after two rounds of the Spartan Invitational hosted by San Jose State at Corral de Tierra. Cal player Sofie Andersson leads individually after shooting seven-under par. The Spartans are currently tied for 10th with Colorado State.
UCLA, the defending national champions, shot a three-under, 281 in the second round to take the lead. Bruins Charlotte Mayorkas and Amie Cochran each shot even-par 142 for the day to pace their team. Cochran had a string of four birdies on the back nine (12-15) on a way to a second round 66 and had nine birdies on the day.
Washington shot 287 for the second round and is led by Paige Mackenzie who is tied for third individually with Mayorkas and Cochran. After a 74 in the first round, Mackenzie came back with a 68 in round two.
California's Sofie Andersson leads the individual portion of the tournament with a seven-under, 135. She shot 68-67 for the day and made seven birdies. UNLV's Elena Kurokawa is second, five shots behind with a two-under 140. She shot 67-73 and finished the day with nine birdies.
USF (307, 299) shares seventh place with New Mexico State (301, 305) at 606, two shots behind sixth place BYU. Junior Nikki Jacoby shares 20th place as the top finisher for San Francisco with a 149 (76, 73), while senior Mariko Shimozaki shares 29th with a 152 (78, 74).
San Jose State finished the day tied for 10th with Colorado State. The team shot 311-299 and was led by Johanna Lundberg who is tied for 18th at 148. She shot a one-over 72 in the second round. Jenelle Gomez is tied for 29th at 152, while Carmina Calle is tied for 42nd at 154. Lindsey Marino tied for 51st at 156, while Tai Kinney is tied for 61st at 160.
The third and final round begins Wednesday morning at 8 a.m., with team teeing off on the 1st and 10th holes every nine minutes.
