No. 24 USF Women's Golf Leads after Round One of UC Irvine Anteater

(Rancho Margarita, CA) - USF women's golf posted a 301 in the opening round of the 2009 UC Irvine Anteater Invitational Monday at Dove Canyon Country Club, good for the overall lead with 36 holes remaining. The Dons own a one shot lead against Long Beach State (302) and a commanding 17 stroke edge against the tournament host No. 22 Anteaters (318).
San Francisco, the 49ers, Idaho (303), UC Davis (304) and UC Riverside (305) round out the top five teams in the 14-team tournament field. The Highlanders own a remarkable 11-shot lead against sixth-place Nevada (316).
Junior Danielle Cvitanov sits in third place after the first 18 holes at two-over 73 on the par-71 course playing at 5,924 yards. UC Riverside's Jennifer Bermingham and UC Davis' Chelsea Stelzmiller shot one-over 71's to sit atop the leader board with two rounds remaining.
Junior Natasha Podmore is in seventh place at 74, after firing a 33 on the back-nine and Diana Hong shares 12th place at 76.
After leading the field in the first round, USF women's golf has led the field in six of its last seven tournament rounds. The Dons won the 2009 Oregon Duck Invitational wire-to-wire last week and led in the first and second rounds of the 2009 Fresno State Lexus Classic, before dropping a one-stroke decision to UC Irvine.
Second round action begins with a 9:00 AM shotgun start.
