No. 24 USF Women's Golf Places Third in 2009 UC Irvine Anteater Invitational

(Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) - USF women's golf could not hold off a final day charge by eventual champion Long Beach State and settled for a third place finish at the 2009 UC Irvine Anteater Invitational Wednesday at the Dove Canyon Country Club. The Dons shot 305 in the final round on the par-71 course playing at 5,924 yards to finish at 904 (298, 301, 305) one stroke behind tournament runner-up UC Davis at 903 (304, 293, 306).
Long Beach State shot the low round of the tournament at 289 in the final round, finishing with the tournament hardware at 891 (302, 300, 289). Idaho finished fourth at 907 (303, 294, 310), while No. 22 UC Irvine rounded out the top-five at 919 (318, 296, 305).
Junior Danielle Cvitanov was the top finisher for the Dons in fifth place at 221 (73, 72, 76). Junior Natasha Podmore was 11th at 227 (74, 75, 78), two shots in front of junior Christine Stockton in 15th place at 229 (80, 76, 73).
Podmore was third in par-3 scoring at one-over (3.07), while Cvitanov was fourth in par-4 scoring at four-over (4.15).
It is the eighth consecutive top-five tournament showing for the Dons in 2008-09. USF looks to challenge in the upcoming West Coast Conference Tournament April 13-14 at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club in Vallejo, CA.
