(Palo Alto) - USF women's golf shot a 290 in the final round of the 2007 Peg Barnard California Collegiate and finished sixth in the 36-hole event at 593 (303, 290) in a strong field at the Stanford Golf Course. After a disappointing opening round, the Dons responded with a good round which should give momentum heading into the 2007 West Coast Conference Championships.

Junior Jessica Potter shot a final round two-under 69 and finished in a share of seventh place at 143 (74, 69) on the par-71, 6,037 yard course. Freshman Christina Stockton shot one-over 72, good for a share of 13th place at 148 (75, 74), while senior Eloise Vicencio shot 149 (75, 74) to tie for 19th.

"There were some positives out there for us today," USF head coach Josh Cupp said. "Jessica played well today, shooting a 69 and Christina was very steady today. She probably hit 14 greens out there for us. We played well today, we just dug ourselves too much of a hole in the opening round."

Stockton led the field with 28 pars, while Potter was fourth with 26. Vicencio carded six birdies to lead the Dons, while Stockton recorded an eagle.

Stanford entered the week ranked No. 9 in the GolfWeek.com rankings and won the event on its home course with a 572 (287, 285), followed by No. 19 Denver at 576 (286, 290) and Oregon State at 586 (302, 284). Hawaii (301, 291) and Long Beach State (289, 303) tied for fourth at 592, edging the Dons by one stroke to round out the top five.

USF posted wins against No. 28 San Jose State (599) and destroyed WCC foe Santa Clara (634).

Long Beach State's Kay Hoey won the event with an eight-under 134 (65, 69).

San Francisco returns to action when it competes in the WCC Championships, beginning Monday, April 16 at La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc, CA.
