(Fresno) - USF women's golf continued to play well, firing a 291 in the final round to secure a runner-up finish in the 2003 West Coast Conference Championships, held at the Riverbend Golf Club in Fresno. The Lady Dons shot a three-day total of 879 (299, 289, 291), establishing a new program record for 54-holes in the process. USF finished just 10 strokes back of #2 Pepperdine, who fired a 869 (290, 290, 289) on the par-73 course.

Senior Susie Laing (78, 69, 72) and sophomore Mariko Shimozaki (72, 75, 72) each fired a 219, good for a share of third place and each earned All-WCC First Team honors. With the selection, Laing becomes the first four-time all-league pick in program history and third overall, while Shimozaki earned all-conference accolades for the second consecutive year.

Senior Lisa Chen placed sixth, firing a 221 (75, 71, 75) to earn runner-up honors, while junior Jordan Auten shot 223 (75, 74, 74) to share eighth place. Senior Lyndsey Devenish placed 10th with a 225 (77, 75, 73). All three earned honorable mention league honors. No Lady Don shot a round in the 80's during the two-day event.

USF has won a pair of championships (1997 & 2001) and has five runner-up appearances.

Head coach Sara Range is thrilled with her team's performance.

"I am so happy with the way this team competed. They were focused and continued to improve with each round. They have really shown me something these last two weeks. We've played three events in the last two weeks and they have just gotten better. I am very proud of their performance," Range stated.
