(Stanford, CA) - USF women's golf competed in the opening round of the 2002 NCAA West Regional at Stanford Golf Course, hosted by Stanford and fired an 315, good for a share of 12th place heading into round two. West Coast Conference rival and defending league champion Pepperdine carded a one-over par 289 today. Rounding out the top five are UCLA (296), California (297), Arizona (299) and New Mexico (302).

Freshman Mariko Shimozaki led the way for the Lady Dons on the first day and fired a 75 for a share of 17th place and was the top finisher for USF in the three-day event. Junior Lyndsey Devenish shot a 77 for San Francisco.

USF will tee off at 7:30 AM for the second round and looks to close the gap as they vie for the first NCAA national berth in program history. The Lady Dons are six strokes behind the cut as the top eight teams advance.
